Hello Fred, the fan blade does sit very close to the radiator. The Chevrolet Cars and Trucks of this era did not have fan shrouds and the theory was to keep the fan blade as close as possible for the most efficient cooling. Make sure that you have your motor and such adjust as far back as possible and that your radiator is firmly mounted and not loose. The fan blade will be roughly 1/4″ -5/8″ from the radiator.

    Thank You For The Question

just reinstalled my 41 chevy 216 with NOS radiator, after installing fan on new water pump I noticed it has maybe 1/4 inch space between radiator core. it is less at radiator frame edge. really don’t want to start motor if its going to spin a circle on this fresh radiator. Don’t remember this issue before I removed it for rebuilding. Help! fred
